Two arrested in connection with stolen vehicle chase

At 10:30 p.m. Sunday, deputies responded to the area of Enos Lane and Seventh Standard Road to assist the Bakersfield Police Department in a pursuit of a reported stolen vehicle.
At BPD's request, deputies took over the pursuit near the intersection of Seventh Standard Road and Scaroni Avenue. The pursuit ended as the suspect lost control of the vehicle near Interstate 5.
The driver and a passenger ran into a pistachio orchard. The passenger, a 17-year-old male from Wasco, was arrested about 11:30 p.m. and booked on suspicion of conspiracy, resisting arrest and possession of a stolen vehicle.
At 2:45 a.m., after tracking the driver's shoe prints for a half mile, deputies found and arrested 18-year-old Jose Betancourt, also of Wasco. Betancourt had been hiding in a pistachio tree two orchards away from where the pursuit ended.
Betancourt was booked on suspicion of conspiracy, vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, evading a peace officer and several vehicle code infractions.
