Motorist drives to work before calling police after hitting pedestrian

By THE BAKERSFIELD CALIFORNIAN

A motorist who struck and killed a pedestrian late Thursday evening continued driving to her place of employment where she contacted Bakersfield police.

An investigation is ongoing to determine whether criminal charges will be filed against the 23-year-old, police said. The name of the 32-year-old pedestrian had not been released as of Friday morning.

Police said the crash occurred at 9:50 p.m. in the 4200 block of Chester Avenue when the woman, driving a silver Toyota Corolla, struck the pedestrian in the southbound lanes. She drove a short distance from the crash to her workplace.

Officers determined she was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at Kern Medical Center about a half hour after the crash.

Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to call the Bakersfield Police Department at 327-7111.
