Gang member sentenced to life without parole in 2013 murder

By THE BAKERSFIELD CALIFORNIAN

A 27-year-old gang member convicted of murder in the shooting death of a man in east Bakersfield last year has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Jimmy Lee Baker was sentenced Thursday for fatally shooting a 21-year-old man who'd been walking to a market on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to buy a soda. Both Baker and an accomplice shot Floyd Bean Jr. multiple times while other customers were inside the store on Feb. 10, 2013.

A jury convicted Baker July 17 of murder, conspiracy and other crimes.
