Suspect shoots, kills relative during fight
By THE BAKERSFIELD CALIFORNIAN
A dispute between two family members resulted in one of them shooting and killing the other Friday evening in southeast Bakersfield, said Sgt. Martin Heredia of the Bakersfield Police Department.
At 6:19 p.m., police officers were called to the scene of a shooting in the 1700 block of Lotus Lane. Officers found a victim outside of a home, where both relatives are believed to have lived, Heredia said. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
With the victim was a witness who directed officers to the suspect, Heredia said. Officers found the suspect a couple blocks away from the scene of the shooting and took the suspect into custody.
Heredia would not elaborate on the circumstances of the fight or say what relation the two relatives were to each other.
At about 8 p.m., the victim's body was still at the scene. The identities of the victim and the suspect were being withheld pending the coroner's office picking up the body and notification of family members, Heredia said.
