CHP to be out in maximum enforcement over holiday period

The California Highway Patrol will be out in maximum enforcement over the Thanksgiving holiday from 6 p.m. Wednesday through 11:59 p.m. Sunday.
Crashes increased statewide on highways during last year's Thanksgiving holiday travel period, and 32 people were killed. Two-thirds of those killed were not wearing a seat belt.
The CHP is also reminding motorists to avoid distracted driving, travel at a speed safe for road conditions and designate a non-drinking driver. Last year, the CHP made 1,475 arrests for driving under the influence during the holiday period.
The public is encouraged to report unsafe or impaired drivers by calling 911.
