Defendant sentenced to 27 years for voluntary manslaughter

A defendant who pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter in a January 2011 stabbing in Oildale was sentenced to 27 years in prison Tuesday.

Donnie Duane Dixon, 43, Dixon fatally stabbed 66-year-old Jimmie Leon Perry following an argument, according to Kern County sheriff's deputies.

Witnesses told deputies Perry was talking to a couple of people in front of his home when Dixon rode up on a bicycle, deputies said. Perry and Dixon began arguing, and during the confrontation Dixon pulled out a knife and stabbed Perry several times.
