By THE BAKERSFIELD CALIFORNIAN

The Delano man killed in a vehicle accident Monday morning east of Lamont was identified Saturday as Mohinder Sidhu, 71, according to the Kern County Coroner's office.

Sidhu's Toyota Camry was stopped facing east at the intersection of Di Giorgio Road at Tejon Highway about 10 a.m., preparing to make a left turn onto northbound Tejon Highway, officers said. Luis E. Guerrero, 83, of Arvin, was stopped facing north on Tejon Highway preparing to make a left turn onto Di Giorgio Road and waiting for a big rig to clear the intersection.

Sidhu entered the intersection directly into the big rig's path, officers said. The big rig's driver, Juan G. Garcia, 49, of Arvin, slammed on his brakes but was unable to stop in time and struck the Camry broadside on the driver's side door.

Officers said the force of the impact pushed the Camry into Guerrero's BMW.

Sidhu was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger, Gurmeet Kaur, 71, of Delano, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Kern Medical Center, according to officers. Garcia and Guerrero were uninjured.
