Defendant pleads no contest to hit and run in pedestrian's death


A drunken driver pleaded no contest Monday to hit and run causing death or permanent serious injury and DUI.

Dennis Ray Ozaeta was driving drunk June 24 when he struck 13-year-old Israel Chavez Medina on Virginia Avenue at Larry Street, according to the California Highway Patrol. Medina died early June 25.

Children ages 3 and 4 were in the car with Ozaeta when the crash happened, officers said. Ozaeta was arrested at his residence.
