Two Tehachapi men were arrested early Monday after allegedly twice aiming a laser at an airplane.

Daniel Roy Mahler, 47, and Mario Guillermo Manero, 52, were booked on suspicion of discharging a laser at an occupied aircraft, Tehachapi police said. Mahler was also booked on suspicion of drug offenses.

A local pilot told police he’d been temporarily disoriented by a laser while landing at Tehachapi Airport at 9:18 p.m. Sunday. A Tehachapi police officer accompanied the pilot back into the air, and the plane was again targeted.

Police said officers were able to identify the source of the laser as a residence in the 1400 block of Cimarron Court. Officers served a search warrant at 3:20 a.m. Monday, finding not only the laser but a half pound of methamphetamine, $1,400 in cash, drug paraphernalia and a rifle and ammunition.
