Home invasion leaves Bakersfield man injured

By THE BAKERSFIELD CALIFORNIAN

A Bakersfield man was critically injured after an alleged robber forced his way into the victim's apartment early Sunday morning.

According to a release from the Kern County Sheriff's Department, Federico Quiroz, 29, and his live-in girlfriend, Maria Anieto, 26, were home at around midnight when an object was thrown at the front window of the residence in the 1500 block of Orange Drive in east Bakersfield. After breaking the glass, the alleged assailant then reached through the broken window and unlocked the front door, the release said.

After being awakened by the noise, Anieto told deputies she saw Quiroz arguing with the suspect at the front door. The suspect produced an item similar to a pipe and began hitting Quiroz in the head. Quiroz retreated into the back bedroom of the residence with the man following him. Once in the bedroom, the man grabbed a purse as well as other property and fled the residence.

When deputies arrived, they found Quiroz bleeding from the head, according to the release. Quiroz was taken to a hospital for treatment where he was listed in critical but stable condition early Sunday.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic male, 5 feet, 6 inches tall, medium build with short brown hair and a goatee.

Anyone with information about the incident should call the Kern County Sheriff's Office at 861-3110, or contact Secret Witness at 322-4040.
