Man hospitalized after going into lake to rescue child
By BREAKING NEWS
A man was hospitalized Saturday after he tried to rescue a child who fell into Lake Isabella.
The Kern County Fire Department was called to the lake near the auxiliary dam at 12:14 p.m. for a drowning, a fire department news release said. A child had fallen from a boat into the lake and two other passengers went into the water trying to rescue the child, firefighters said.
The fire department started a rapid rescue operation and got all three victims out of the water. One of the people pulled from the lake needed immediate CPR, firefighters said. The man was driven to Kern Valley Hospital and later airlifted to San Joaquin Community Hospital. His condition was not known Sunday evening, firefighters said.
The remaining passengers drifted in the boat until lake patrol secured it, the news release said.
