Motorcycle officer crashed in trying to avoid collision

By BREAKING NEWS BLOG

A motorcycle officer crashed as he tried to avoid another vehicle Wednesday morning after the other driver turned directly into the motorcycle's path.

Bakersfield police said Officer Christopher Bagby was taken to a local hospital with minor to moderate injuries. Drugs or alcohol aren't a factor in the crash.

Bagby was driving wast on Brundage Lane at 11:28 a.m. approaching Cedar Street, police said. Helen Rose, 62, was traveling east on Brundage Lane and tried to turn left onto Cedar.

Bagby took evasive action and turned his motorcycle so he didn't hit Rose's vehicle, police said. The motorcycle went down in the roadway and slid to a stop.

Anyone with information regarding this crash is asked to call the Bakersfield Police Department at 327-7111.
