Pedestrian hit on California Avenue

BY BREAKING NEWS BLOG

A 28-year-old Bakersfield woman suffered moderate injuries to her lower legs when she stepped onto California Avenue outside of a crosswalk and was hit by a car Saturday morning.

Bakersfield police were sent to westbound California Avenue just west of Union Avenue at 11:31 a.m. to investigate the incident, according to a Bakersfield Police Department news release.

Police found that the pedestrian, Jessica Thompson of Bakersfield, stepped into the road against a "Don't Walk" signal as Clara Jeffers, also of Bakersfield, turned right onto California from southbound Union in a 2003 Nissan sedan. The passenger side of the car hit Thompson, causing her to fall and suffer the injuries.

Thompson was taken to a hospital. Jeffers, 65, was not hurt and was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs. She was not cited.
