A 4 1/2-acre fire near Lake Isabella that was started Sunday afternoon by three juveniles playing with matches forced the evacuation of 10 families before it was brought under control.

About 150 firefighters from the Kern County Fire Department, Bureau of Land Managment and U.S. Forest Service fought the fire, which was 65 percent contained by Sunday night.

They were aided by two helicopters and two air tankers.

The fire began just after 3 p.m. west of the intersection of Crestview Avenue and Lucerne Way.

Firefighters planned to monitor the fire through the night.

Everyone evacuated was allowed to return home within a short time.
