Guilty plea Monday in connection with marijuana grow

Mairo Correa-Garcia, 18, an undocumented immigrant from Michoacán, Mexico, pleaded guilty Monday to conspiring to grow, distribute and possess with intent to distribute marijuana grown on the Canebrake Ecological Reserve.
The reserve is in South Fork Valley in northeastern Kern County. In pleading guilty, Correa-Garcia admitted that he conspired with Cruz Soria, 27, of Bakersfield, to grow 454 marijuana plants in the Fay Canyon area of the reserve.
Correa-Garcia is scheduled for sentencing Dec. 3. He faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison, a maximum of 40 years in prison, and a $5 million fine.
Charges are pending against Soria.
