Jack Zickgraf, right, Dave Henkel, and Bob Danzl traveled up from the San Diego area to see Tehachapi Loop only to find there was a train derailment at the world famous loop. With the opportunity to see railroad crews in action, the trio pulled out their chairs( Jack and Dave also slipped on their safety vests), grabbed cameras and binoculars, and watched the work being done to clear the tracks. At far left is John Legans of Lancaster who also stopped to watch.

Several cars derailed but no injuries were reported after a train crashed into the back of another train northwest of Tehachapi early Monday morning.

A BNSF Railway train rear-ended a Union Pacific train at 2:30 a.m. southwest of Highway 58 just east of Broome Road in Walong, Union Pacific spokesman Aaron Hunt said. There were no injuries to crew members on either train and no hazardous materials were being carried.

A Union Pacific locomotive derailed but remained upright. Hunt said the locomotive was on the rear of the train and no crew members were in it at the time of the crash.

Four Union Pacific rail cars derailed on their sides, he said. The crash happened on Union Pacific track and an investigation is under way as to the cause.

Hunt said crews are repairing the track and the extent of the damage was unknown as of 10:30 a.m.
