A Bear Valley Springs man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of attempted murder and other charges after a five-hour confrontation with officers.
James Dale Wilson, 57, was arrested by Bear Valley Springs police just after 11 p.m. at a residence in the 23300 block of Lakeview Drive.
Police responded about 6 p.m. after a medical alert alarm dispatcher said a woman could be heard screaming for help from the residence before a male voice said no help was needed and hung up the phone.
When an officer arrived he was confronted at the doorway by Wilson, who brandished a knife and struggled with him before slamming the door.
Two women in the house escaped, and officers from the California Highway Patrol, several local departments and Kern County Sheriffs responded.
After obtaining a warrant, officers entered the residence after 11 p.m. and took Wilson into custody.
In addition to attempted murder, he was also booked on suspicion of domestic battery, assault with a deadly weapon and obstruction.
