Dash across 99 proves fatal for Laguna Hills man

By THE BAKERSFIELD CALIFORNIAN

A Laguna Hills man who experienced car trouble on Highway 99, not far from Highway 166, was killed Friday night when he was struck by a car as he tried to run across southbound traffic lanes, apparently while seeking assistance.

Scott Girard Eichhorn, 28, suffered massive injuries when he was hit by a 2009 Toyota driven by Monica S. Arrazola, 52, of Van Nuys, the California Highway Patrol said in a news release. The accident happened at about 8:28 p.m. Eichhorn died at the scene from his injuries.

According to the CHP, Arrazola was unable to see Eichhorn "until the last second." She suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Kern Medical Center.

Eichhorn's red 2000 Silverado was found near the scene at the center divider of southbound 99. The pickup had a flat tire and a jack was positioned under the truck.

He may have needed additional tools or assistance, the CHP said in the release, before he made that last, fatal dash.
