DUI checkpoint nets attempted homicide arrest

A DUI checkpoint Saturday night on southbound Union Avenue led to two drivers arrested for felony warrants -- one of which was for attempted homicide.

The checkpoint also resulted in four arrests for driving under the influence and 27 people cited for driving with suspended licenses.

Additionally, of the 1,566 vehicles passing through the Bakersfield police checkpoint from 7 p.m. Saturday to 2 a.m. Sunday in the 200 block of Union Avenue, 46 drivers did not have a valid driver's license and 70 vehicles were impounded.
