Two people suffered major injuries in a suspected DUI crash Thursday on Edison Highway east of Quantico Avenue.
Ria Cecilia Gandara, 74, and Isidra O. Hernandez, 41, both of Fontana, were parked in a Ford Mustang on the right shoulder of Edison Highway at 12:15 p.m., according to California Highway Patrol officers. Jose Rios Castro, 53, of Bakersfield, was driving a pickup east on Edison Highway and veered onto the right shoulder, crashing into the Mustang.
Gandara and Hernandez suffered major injuries and were taken to Kern Medical Center, officers said. Castro suffered minor injuries and was also taken to KMC.
Castro is believed to have been under the influence of prescription medication and was arrested on suspicion of DUI, officers said.
