One killed in crash east of Lamont
By BREAKING NEWS BLOG
A fatal crash involving three vehicles occurred 9:50 a.m. Monday east of Lamont.
A 71-year-old Delano man was killed in the crash, according to the CHP. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The victim's Toyota Camry was stopped facing east at the intersection of Di Giorgio Road at Tejon Highway, preparing to make a left hand turn onto northbound Tejon Highway, officers said. Luis E. Guerrero, 83, of Arvin, was stopped facing north on Tejon Highway preparing to make a left hand turn onto Di Giorgio Road and waiting for a big rig to clear the intersection.
The victim entered the intersection directly into the big rig's path, officers said. The big rig's driver, Juan G. Garcia, 49, of Arvin, slammed on his braked but was unable to stop in time and struck the Camry broadside on the driver's side door.
Officers said the force of the impact pushed the Camry into Guerrero's BMW.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and a passenger, Gurmeet Kaur, 71, of Delano, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Kern Medical Center, according to officers. Garcia and Guerrero were uninjured.
Speed was not a factor and alcohol or drugs are not suspected. Tejon Highway was closed in both direction just south of Di Giorgio Road for two hours.
