A Bakersfield man arrested Sunday is suspected of murder in the death of his father, plus two counts of elder abuse and two counts of criminal threats.
Bakersfield police arrested Geoff Edwin Murphy, 33, who allegedly exchanged shots with his father Thursday morning inside a residence in the 10900 block of Artist Court.
After police arrived at the residence about 8:13 a.m., a woman told them her son and husband were involved in a fight inside the house.
Murphy then exited the residence with a bullet wound in his upper torso.
At that time, police said Murphy told them his father remained inside. The father, whose name has not been released by the Kern County coroner’s office, was found on the kitchen floor with a gunshot wound to his upper torso.
Murphy was treated at a local hospital.
The investigation is continuing.
