Suspect assaults boy after stealing his bicycle

    The Kern County Sheriff's Office is looking for this suspect accused of stealing a BMX-style bicycle from in front of the Mi Familia Market at 1324 Flower St. on Jan. 2 and knocking the 11-year-old owner of the bike to the ground.

A suspect stole a boy's bicycle earlier this month and then assaulted the 11-year-old after the boy chased him.

Kern County sheriff's deputies say the incident occurred about 2 p.m. Jan. 2 at the Mi Familia Market at 1324 Flower St. in east Bakersfield. The suspect, upon leaving the store, took a BMX-style bike that was parked to the front and began riding away.

The boy chased him and the suspect knocked the boy to the ground, deputies said. The suspect then rode away.

The suspect is described as black, 18 to 25 years old, 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall, black hair, wearing a black and gray hooded sweatshirt, white T-shirt and gray basketball shorts.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 861-3110 or Secret Witness at 322-4040.
