Authorities ask public's help in search for sex offender

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation is seeking the public's assistance in locating a registered sex offender and parolee at large, the Kern County Sheriff's Department said in a news release Monday.

Melvin Foley Jr., 31 is on parole for child molestation, according to the release.

Foley was released from the Kern County Sheriff's Lerdo Jail on Nov. 5, but failed to report to his parole officer. His whereabouts are unknown, authorities said.

Foley is described as a black male, 5 feet, 6 inches tall, 190 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. His last known address is 816 Kentucky St., apartment C.

If anyone has information on his whereabouts they are asked to call the Bakersfield parole office at 634-9620 or the sheriff's office at 861-3110. Anonymous text tips can be sent to TIP411 (847411). Just type the keyword "KCSO" prior to the message.
