Second person dies in connection with December crash

A second person has died in connection with a December crash in which two vehicles may have been racing on Bear Mountain Boulevard in Arvin.
Esteban Rojas, 27, died Saturday from injuries suffered in the crash, Arvin police said. The first victim, Pedro Rojas, 20, died at the scene of the Dec. 23 crash.
Police said responding officers found two vehicles in the roadway on Bear Mountain Boulevard and Derby Street. Pedro Rojas was lying on the side of the road and had been thrown from a Honda Accord driven by Esteban Rojas.
Mario Gonzalez, 28, the driver of the other vehicle - a Chevy Silverado - was taken to Kern Medical Center suffering from moderate injuries, police said.
The Silverado was headed eastbound on Bear Mountain Boulevard when it struck the Accord, which was traveling northbound on Derby Street, officers said. The Silverado and a truck had been speeding on Bear Mountain Boulevard and may have been racing each other before the crash.
Police said Gonzalez was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence of alcohol.
The driver of the truck that left the scene has been identified as 25-year-old Juan Mejia, according to police. Mejia has been question and the case remains under investigation.
