Pit bull shot after attacking deputy

At 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, a person reported being attacked by a large pit bull in the 300 block of Monroe Street in Taft.

A deputy responded and was in the west alleyway of 300 Monroe Street when a large pit bull attacked her. The deputy twice used her to baton on the dog, but it continued to attack.

The deputy then shot the dog in the head, and it ran into a yard where Kern County Animal Control captured it. The dog was treated by a local veterinarian and taken to Animal Control's shelter.

The deputy and the person who reported the original attack were not injured.
