Suspect arrested on suspicion of using counterfeit currency
By BREAKING NEWS BLOG
At 3:02 p.m. Dec. 29, Kern County sheriff's deputies responded to a report of counterfeit currency at the Spoiled Rotten Boutique at 10014 Rosedale Highway in Bakersfield.
An employee reported a customer had made a purchase at the store with a $100 bill and then left the store. The employee later found the bill was counterfeit.
On Jan. 7, detectives received information from a citizen who had seen a news story showing the video surveillance of the suspect and provided the suspect's name and address.
The next day, detectives contacted the store employee, who positively identified 51-year-old Cheron Willis as the person who used the counterfeit bill. Willis was arrested Jan. 14 on suspicion of passing fictitious currency and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Detectives are investigating additional cases possibly involving Willis passing counterfeit currency.
