Gang deputies find assault weapon during parole search

Deputies with the Kern County Sheriff's Gang Suppression Section made two arrests after finding an assault rifle and a loaded, high-capacity magazine Friday night during a parole compliance search in Bakersfield.

A department news release said deputies conducting the search were inside a residence in the 1900 block of Quincy Street when they discovered the rifle and the magazine at about 10 p.m.

They arrested Javier Rodriguez, 34, and booked him on suspicion of possessing an SKS rifle, possessing an assault weapon, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, conspiracy, a parole warrant and participation in a criminal street gang, the release states.

Anthony Ochoa, 25, was also arrested. He was book on suspicion of conspiracy, being an accessory and participation in a criminal street gang.
