DUI checkpoint results in eight arrests

A DUI checpoint Friday evening netted eight arrests, according to Bakersfield Police.

The checkpoint was held in the 2200 block of South Union Avenue and 5000 block of California Avenue between 7 p.m. and 3 a.m.

A total of 1,068 vehicles passed through the checkpoint and 1,014 were screened.

Eight people were arrested for DUI; 67 drivers were found not to have a valid driver's license; 18 of those drivers were found to have a suspended license; and 37 vehicles were impounded.

Per a state vehicle code, officers released 34 vehicles which had been held for driver's license violations.

Funding for this checkpoint came from the state Office of Traffic Safety.
