Motorcycle cycle officer injured in Monday crash

A Bakersfield police officer was injured Monday morning after crashing his motorcycle avoiding a truck that pulled directly into his path and then left the scene.

Officer Brian Looney suffered road rash and a broken forearm, Bakersfield police Detective Uriel Pacheco said.

Looney was traveling eastbound on Truxtun Avenue approaching Truxtun Plaza West when a dark-colored fullsized truck turned eastbound directly in the officer's path, Pacheco said. Looney took evasive action to avoid hitting the truck and crashed his motorcycle.

The truck sped off and the officer was taken to a local hospital.
