The Fresno Police Department said in a news release Friday evening that detectives have made significant progress in their investigation into the death of Philip Dhanens, a Garces High graduate from Bakersfield who died Sunday after a night of drinking at a fraternity house in Fresno.
Dhanens, 18, a Fresno State freshman, reportedly had hoped to join Theta Chi, an off-campus fraternity. An autopsy report is pending.
Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer said in the release that detectives have interviewed more than 40 individuals, with some 15 to 20 additional interviews yet to be completed.
On Friday afternoon Fresno police detectives served a search warrant at the Theta Chi fraternity house on Joyal Court, where the party took place. Detectives are also working in conjunction with the university to obtain additional documents to assist in the investigation, Dyer said.
The department expects to provide another update at the end of next week as the investigation progresses.
