At 4:30 p.m. Monday, Taft substation deputies executed a search warrant at a residence in the 400 block of Hillard Street.
The search warrant was related to a residential burglary investigation done earlier in the day in which Joe Brian Barraza, 26, and Daniel Gilbert Valdez, 30, were arrested on suspicion of burglarizing a home in the 300 block of E Street.
The warrant led to the discovery of 100 grams of methamphetamine, $2,300.00 in cash and seven guns. The guns include an AK-47 rifle, Uzi machine pistol, Bushmaster AR-15 rifle equipped with an M-203 grenade launcher, along with high capacity magazines and thousands of rounds of ammunition. All the weapons were linked back to Joe Brian Barraza, who is a convicted felon.
Barraza was booked on suspicion of residential burglary, possession of meth for sale, possession of an assault weapon, being a felon in possession of a gun, being a felon in possession of ammunition, possession of high capacity magazines, conspiracy and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Daniel Gilbert Valdez was booked on suspicion of residential burglary, conspiracy, possession of stolen property and possession of meth.
