Boat driver convicted of second-degree murder for fatal crash

A driver in a fatal boat crash was found guilty of all the charges against him stemming from the incident including second-degree murder Friday.
Justin Mark Ennis was driving a ski boat on Lake Webb on Aug. 28, 2010, when he crashed into another boat and killed its driver, according to an email from Kern County Parks Chief Park Ranger Robert Boardman.
In addition to second-degree murder, a jury found Ennis guilty of vehicle manslaughter with vessel with gross negligence, negligent use of a watercraft while driving under the influence, reckless/negligent watercraft operation, use of watercraft while under the influence of alcohol/drugs and operation of a vessel with blood alcohol content of .08 or more, according to Kern County Superior Court records.
Boardman wrote that Ennis was under the influence of alcohol and marijuana when he smashed into the other boat, which had stopped to pick up a 13-year-old girl who fell from a tube. Ennis drove his boat on top of the other vessel, killing 29-year-old Salvador Rodriguez and narrowly missing two passengers, according park officials.
Kern County Parks and Recreation park rangers arrested Ennis.
