Sheriff's deputies arrested an Oildale man Sunday afternoon after he allegedly shot a woman twice.
When the first deputy arrived at the home in the 3000 block of Worthington Avenue about 1:30 p.m. he heard shots fired inside the residence.
As backups arrived, a woman with at least two gunshot wounds exited the house onto the front porch. She was moved to a safe location.
Deputies determined that the suspect, Johnnie Hall, 66, was inside the home's garage armed with numerous firearms.
The county SWAT unit was dispatched to the scene, but before it arrived deputies were able to contact Hall and he surrendered.
The woman and Hall were taken to Kern Medical Center. Her injuries were described as "moderate to major" but not life threatening.
Deputies seized numerous firearms from the residence, where they also found a dog that had been shot.
Hall was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, spousal abuse and felony animal cruelty.
