Big-rig driver killed in Highway 99 crash

By THE BAKERSFIELD CALIFORNIAN

A big-rig driver died early Sunday when he lost control of his truck and crashed into a tree along Highway 99.

The Californian Highway Patrol reported that Hugh Michael March, 50, of Inglewood, was killed at 4 a.m. when his northbound big-rig crashed into a tree just north of Panama Road at an unknown speed.

The CHP said March allowed his 2010 Freightliner tractor/trailer to drift off the roadway where it collided with a tree.

The investigation is continuing.
