DOJ: Bakersfield man pleads guilty to passport fraud

On Monday, a Bakersfield man pleaded guilty to making a false statement in a passport application.

Hipolito Venegas, 62, a citizen of Mexico, used a false name, date of birth and Social Security number in an application for a United States passport, said a Department of Justice news release.

Venegas is scheduled to be sentenced on June 24 and the maximum statutory penalty he faces is 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, or both.
