Cause of suspicious fire unknown Tuesday night
By BREAKING NEWS
No one was harmed in a fire at a vacant south Bakersfield house Tuesday night but investigators were looking for the cause of the fire.
Bakersfield Fire Department Battalion Chief Mark Angello said the fire was suspicious but that he did not know what started it.
The fire department received multiple calls reporting the fire in the 2300 block of South J Street at 8 p.m., Angello said. Three engines and two trucks were sent to the fire.
When firefighters arrived, flames were coming from a front window and side of the home, Angello said. Firefighters put out the blaze in minutes, he said.
Gerald King, who lives next door to the burnt home, said he heard a loud boom and saw smoke from the fire. King said the home was a rental property that had been empty for some time.
