Plane that took off in Shafter goes missing

By THE BAKERSFIELD CALIFORNIAN

A small plane that took off from Shafter's Minter Field airport with three people from Wyoming went missing Sunday after they stopped for fuel in Utah, said Capt. Jason Hess of Utah's Civil Air Patrol.

Matthew Ahrens, 37, Trista Meyer, 34, and her daughter, Shyann Lenz, 9, stopped for fuel Sunday afternoon in Fillmore, Utah. That's their last known location. To no avail, authorities checked every airport on the route they would have to take to Wyoming to see if they stopped there, Hess said. Now authorities are searching the mountain terrain around Fillmore to find the plane, he said.

Hess said he did not have any more information Tuesday night.
