Man suspected of shooting, killing relative identified

Bakersfield Police released the name of a man in custody who is suspected of shooting and killing a relative during an argument.

Darren Lewis, 24, was arrested on suspicion of murder and felon in possession of a firearm, according to a Bakersfield Police Department news release sent early Saturday morning.

On Friday night, police went to the 1700 block of Lotus Lane in response to a shooting. Officers found a man shot dead in the driveway of a home where both he and Lewis are believed to have lived, police said Friday night. A witness led police to Lewis, who was a couple blocks away from the scene.

Police are still withholding the name of the victim, pending release by the coroner's office, according to the news release.
