Man suffers fatal injuries in crash

By Breaking news blog

A Bakersfield man died from injuries he suffered Saturday in a crash that tore the roof off his vehicle and ended only after the vehicle hit a curb, a building and several parked vehicles.

Ariel Eric Paredez, 27, was pronounced dead at Kern Medical Center about an hour after the 10:50 p.m. crash, according to a Kern County coroner's office news release.

Paredez was driving south on South Union Avenue, north of Old Yard Drive, at a high rate of speed when his vehicle traveled onto the right shoulder and hit the curb, California Highway Patrol officers reported. The vehicle continued in a southerly direction and struck a building, kept going south and hit another building, tearing the roof off the vehicle.

It then crashed through a chain link fence and into a tow yard where it struck three parked vehicle and another fence before coming to a stop, officers reported.

A passenger, 31-year-old Leno Paredez, suffered moderate injuries, officers reported.

The crash remains under investigation.
