Suspect wanted for sexual assault, kidnapping

    The Bakersfield Police Department is asking for the community's help identifying a suspect wanted for sexual assault and kidnapping. Police said a victim was walking north in the 800 block of Oak Street shortly before 3 a.m. Sept. 2 when she was approached from behind, pulled into a planter with shrubbery, thrown to the ground and sexually assaulted. Police released this sketch of the suspect.

Bakersfield police are asking the public's help in identifying a suspect wanted for sexual assault and kidnapping early Monday.

Police said they responded to the 800 block of Oak Street at 2:57 a.m. and learned that the victim was approached from behind, grabbed, and dragged a short distance into a planter with shrubbery. He threw her to the ground and sexually assaulted her.

The victim fought back and managed to escape, and the suspect ran east on Sunset Avenue.

Police said the suspect was described as Hispanic, 5 feet 1 inch tall, medium build, full trimmed beard, wearing a black long-sleeved shirt with a white logo and black pants.
