DUI checkpoints net 10 arrests, more than 100 invalid, suspended licenses

Six DUI arrests and more than 70 incidents of drivers with suspended or invalid licenses occurred late Saturday as part of the "AVOID the 18" Kern DUI Task Force.

Between 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 a.m. Sunday, 3,139 vehicles passed through the two checkpoints in the north and southbound lanes of the 200 block of Union Avenue.

More than 2,960 of the vehicles were screened. Bakersfield Police announced one felony arrest was made and 46 vehicles were impounded.

Similar checkpoints late Friday and early Saturday in the 2300 block of California Avenue resulted in four DUI arrests, 35 drivers with suspended or invalid licenses and 27 impounded vehicles.
