Suspect in fatal hit-and-run arrested

By BREAKING NEWS BLOG

Bakersfield police arrested a man Thursday they believe was involved in a fatal hit-and-run earlier this week.

Sgt. Greg Jehle was patrolling the 2500 block of P Street at 2:32 a.m. when he contacted the driver of a vehicle he recognized as possibly involved in the death of a pedestrian Tuesday, according to a BPD news release. Jehle interviewed the driver, Anthony Morales, and arrested the 29-year-old on suspicion of hit and run causing death, driving on a suspended license and vehicular manslaughter.

Yvonne Shelley Cupis, 59, was struck and killed 1:27 a.m. Tuesday on Q Street, just north of 31st Street, the coroner's office has reported.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Officer Chris Bagby at 326-3967 or Secret Witness at 322-4040.
