A 1-year-old girl died Tuesday after she was hit by a car driven by her mother, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.
Bakersfield police were called to the incident at an apartment complex parking lot in the 1400 block of Monterey Street at 3:45 p.m.
Soon after the girl was hit, Bakersfield Police Department Sgt. Graydon Argast said "the child has been taken to a local hospital with serious injuries."
The girl, identified as Isabella Rose Alvarado, was pronounced dead shortly after she was taken to a hospital, according to a police department news release.
Police identified the girl's mother as Amanda Alvarado of Bakersfield.
An investigation into the incident is continuing but "impaired driving" does not appear to have contributed to it, the news release said.
