A teenager who stole a car, drove erratically, crashed and fled on foot was arrested and charged with several offenses, the Kern County Sheriff's Department announced late Friday.

Deputies were flagged down at a disturbance of the peace around 4:30 p.m. Friday near the 300 block of Palomino Drive, officials said.

During the investigation, the suspect, Griffin Terrance, 18, stole a car and led deputies on a short vehicle pursuit. The deputies cancelled the pursuit based on Terrance's driving behavior, but Terrance continued to drive at a high rate of speed, the department said.

The suspect eventually crashed into a fence in the area of Monica Street and Butternut Avenue. No one was was injured.

Terrance fled the scene but was caught after a pursuit on foot, deputies said. He was to be booked on charges of auto theft, evading a peace officer and driving under the influence.
