Operation targeting domestic violence suspects nets 22 arrests

A total of 22 suspects wanted on warrants charging them with domestic violence were arrested Wednesday morning in Bakersfield.
Bakersfield police Sgt. Jason Matson said officers tried contacting 161 domestic violence suspects during the 6 a.m. sweep. Police conducted the operation with the assistance of the Kern County Probation Department.
Matson said there have been 1,007 domestic violence-related arrests in the city this year.
Louis Gill, executive director of the Alliance Against Family Violence and Sexual Assault, thanked the officers for their work during a Wednesday afternoon news conference.
"There are 22 homes tonight that are safer," Gill said.
