Deputies use of force determined within policy in firing at suspect who pointed gun at them

The Kern County Sheriff's Office Incident Review Board convened Wednesday to consider the use of force by Deputy Warren Martin and Deputy Cody Johnson in connection with an officer-involved shooting that occurred June 23.

The Incident Review Board determined that the use of force by the deputies was within Sheriff's Office policy.

The deputies fired at and struck a 17-year-old suspect who pointed a gun at them during a chase in east Bakersfield, deputies said. The teen suffered moderate injuries and was booked on suspicion of resisting arrest and brandishing a gun at a peace officer.
