Police explorers accepting applicants

Bakersfield Police Department Explorer Post #521 is recruiting and testing for police explorers.
The explorers work closely with the department and develop experience in the following: administrative procedures; arrest and control; crime prevention techniques; community relations; emergency dispatch and communications; fingerprinting; leadership experience; officer safety; traffic control; and vehicle and penal codes.
Applicants must be between 14 and a half to 20 years of age and have a general interest and information in law enforcement. They must maintain a GPA of 2.0 or better in each class and must not use alcohol or drugs.
In addition, applicants must not have any felony convictions and, if under the age of 18, must have parental consent.
Testing will take place 6 p.m. Sept. 18 at the Bakersfield Convection Center at 1001 Truxtun Ave. Pictured ID is required.
