Man found guilty in assault of live-in girlfriend

A man accused of assaulting his live-in girlfriend in July was found guilty by a jury Thursday, according to a news release from the District Attorney's office.
Guillermo Alvarez was convicted of torture, assault with a deadly weapon and domestic violence causing great bodily injury. The jury also found that Alvarez inflicted cruel or extreme pain and suffering for sadistic purpose in the July 7 assaut, according to the news release.
Alvarez' sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 11. He faces the possibility of a life sentence, according to the news release.
