68-year-old man hit by car, killed while crossing street

A 68-year-old man was killed Wednesday night when a car hit him as he was crossing the street in an area that was not a crosswalk, according to a news release from the Bakersfield Police Department.

The man was identified as Miguel Buenos, of Bakersfield, according to the Kern County Sheriff's coroner's office.

Buenos was crossing the street in the 5400 block of Stine Road when Jose Jimenez, of Bakersfield, struck him, according to the news release. Officers responded to the call of an accident at about 7 p.m. Buenos was taken to Kern Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Jimenez was not found to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, according to the news release. He answered officers' question and was released at the scene.

The crash is still under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Officer Nicholas Gospich at 327-7111.
